Heritage Open Days 2026

Heritage Open Days, England’s largest festival of history and culture, returns from 11th–20th September.

Each September, historic buildings, sites and places open their doors for special events, tours, talks and activities, with opportunities to explore places that may normally be closed or have restricted access.

Local highlights featured in Local Connections include Place House Hall in Ware, St Nicholas’ Church in Elmdon, Panshanger Park and Hertford Castle, alongside events around Cambridge including Wolfson College, Denny Abbey and the Farmland Museum, Burwell Museum and Windmill, Trinity College and Saffron Walden Museum.

Events are free to explore, although some require advance booking.
