Barkway’s third literary festival has a diverse programme of world class authors, wordsmiths, podcasters, adventurers and children’s writers. This year’s event has been created to entertain children in the morning, inspire the most determined individuals to achieve their life goals regardless of what challenges life throws at you during the afternoon and marvel at our evening keynote speaker. Events chaired by Jude Simpson, authors will talk about their life, new books and careers. Meet the authors afterwards at the book signings. All book sales and signs are undertaken by Bow Books, our local independent book store. Tickets £10 adults, £5 children. Day tickets £40 and allow access to all seven author events and four workshops.

Woodman Talks with Ivor Warne, “Americans in Britain”

From the silent film era’s physical comedy to the glamour of Hollywood’s Golden Age, the gritty realism of New American Cinema, and the diversity of Contemporary Cinema, explore how iconic actors have shaped and reflected the cultural zeitgeist.
The course will be delivered by Ellen Cheshire, a film writer and lecturer.

The annual Lights of Love ceremony and Late Night Shopping evening. This year we will also have the official switching on of the Christmas lights in Buntingford – said by many to be the best around. The evening usually starts in the grounds of The Manor House with the lighting of the Lights of Love Tree in aid of the Isabel Hospice. Traditional carols are sung in this special ceremony.
