Sandon Village Fete celebrates the National Year of Reading: A Village Full of Stories
Sandon’s fete on Sunday 13th September will celebrate the National Year of Reading with the theme A Village Full of Stories. The event will transform the village into a celebration of books, local history, creativity and traditional family entertainment.
There are competitions for adults and children for the best short story, poem or limerick, whilst a special community montage will capture memories of village life. Organisers are encouraging people to contribute anecdotes about themselves, the history of their homes, memorable events and colourful village characters.
The afternoon’s programme includes a reading of the Very Hungry Caterpillar, creating book sculptures, Find Wally challenge, Vinted fashion stall, dog show and teddy bear tombola. Refreshments include, bbq, bar and delicious homemade teas.
Traditional fete attractions include grand draw, white elephant, coconut shy, pétanque, corndog game, high striker and horses tails.
All Saints’ Church will feature flower arrangements inspired by storytelling forming a decorative centrepiece for the event.
Gay Ayton, one of the organisers said: “This year’s fete celebrates the stories, memories and characters that make our village unique. We hope people will come along, enjoy a fantastic day out and share a little of their own story with us.”
Free entry with donations welcomed. All monies raised go towards upgrading facilities of the church.
The fete is held on Sandon’s village green and in the village hall, SG9 0QX, 1-4pm on Sunday 13th September 2025. Free parking.
