It’s good news for everyone interested in organs and organ music that the organ in St Andrew’s Church, Orwell, has been rebuilt as new with up to date aids maximising the potential of its 1,000 pipes, 24 stops, 2 keyboards and pedalboard.
Its pipes can produce a great variety of sounds with notes covering the full range of human audibility. Dating from 1878, the organ has been fully restored with many new parts, by specialist craftsmen working for 8 months in the workshop of Cousans Organ Builders in Coalville, Leicestershire.
In the summer, as part of “Play the Organ Year 2025” there will be opportunities for anyone interested to come to try out the organ and to discover what a thrill it is to play the organ!
The return of the organ will be celebrated with a concert to be given by the renowned organist, Paul Hale, on 9th May.
The concert programme of great music will demonstrate the capabilities of the rebuilt organ. Tickets are £10, including an interval drink. Seating is unreserved and the pews are wooden – so bring a cushion!
