Music Bugs is coming to the Royston and South Cambs area, with sensory and interactive music and singing classes for babies, toddlers and preschoolers – and their grown-ups.

Gently structured sessions use rhymes, counting songs, action songs, musical instruments, puppets, teddies, bubbles and more to give babies and young children a variety of musical and sensory experiences.

Classes are run by qualified teacher Janet Cottenden and will launch in Melbourn on Wednesdays and Great Shelford on Mondays at the end of September.

Families can choose Baby Bugs sessions for newborns to walking, or mixed-age Family Bugs sessions for toddlers, preschoolers and siblings.

Thinking of joining a singing group this autumn? Foxton Singers meets every Thursday evening during term time, from 7.30–9.30pm at Foxton Pavilion.

The group of around 30 singers performs a wide repertoire, from popular songs from all eras to jazz, folk, blues, musicals and classical choral works.

There is no need to be able to read music and no previous singing experience is required. New members are welcome to come along on any Thursday, with an Open Evening taking place on Thursday 10th September.

Barrington Classic Car Club takes place on the first Friday of every month, continuing the village’s long-standing tradition of celebrating classic cars.

The event is held on The Green, opposite The Royal Oak, where visitors can enjoy a showcase of automotive history and community spirit. The 16th-century pub and restaurant overlooks the village green and offers plenty of outdoor space, with an outside bar, food vans and treats from the pub’s old tuck shop during the evening.

Car enthusiasts with vehicles registered in January 1985 or earlier can book their cars into the event in advance.

Home-Start Royston, Buntingford & South Cambridgeshire is looking for people with parenting, childcare or caregiving experience to become Home-Visiting Volunteers.

Volunteers offer friendship, encouragement and practical support to families with young children who may be going through a difficult time. A few hours each week can make a valuable difference to a local family.

The next free Home-Visiting Volunteer Training Course starts on Monday 21st September and runs for five consecutive Mondays, from 9.30am–2.30pm.

Cambridgeshire Cats American Football Club has been competing as part of the British American Football Association for more than 40 years.

The club has a Senior team for players aged 18+ competing in the BAFA Premier South division, alongside a Junior team for ages 16–19 competing in the BAFA Under 19 competition. The club focuses on player development, coaching standards, fitness, teamwork and community.

On Sunday 18th October, 1–4pm, the Cats will hold a Rookie Day at Shelford Rugby Club on Pitch 1.

Anyone aged 16 or over, of any gender or level of fitness, is invited to come along and get an introduction to the game and find out what it is like to be part of the club. No previous experience is required.

Participants should bring training kit – shorts, top and studded boots – a gum shield and plenty of enthusiasm.

50ml Pinkster
12.5ml Pinkster Raspberry & Hibiscus Spritz
20ml fresh lemon juice
Handful of fresh blackberries

Method

Add three blackberries to your glass, muddle and top with crushed ice.

Pour in the gin, Pinkster Spritz and lemon juice, then stir with a bar spoon.

Top with more crushed ice and garnish with blackberries.

Residents and visitors are invited to step behind the scenes of Cambridge this September as Open Cambridge returns with ten days of free tours, exhibitions, talks and open days celebrating the city’s history, research and culture.

Running from 11th–20th September, the annual festival offers opportunities to explore places that are rarely open to the public, meet the people behind them and discover stories that have shaped Cambridge over the centuries.

Highlights include a special open day at the Churchill Archives Centre, visits to college libraries at Trinity, St John’s and Corpus Christi, and a family-friendly open day at the Museum of Cambridge.

Families can also enjoy live music, arts and crafts, fitness tasters and activities at the Storey’s Field Centre Showcase in Eddington. Other events include archaeology talks about Wandlebury Hillfort, Second World War stories at the Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial, artefacts at the Lawrence Room Museum at Girton College and visits to Histon Road Cemetery.

Most events are free, although some require advance booking because places are limited.

Royston Arts Festival returns this September with more than 30 events celebrating creativity, performance and community, with the main festival weekend taking place from 24th–27th September.

The programme features exhibitions, live music, workshops, talks, drama, literature, film and family events, with many free to attend.

Highlights include an outdoor screening of E.T., live performances from folk duo Megson and Thursday’s Band, the Royston Book Fair, Shakespeare-inspired comedies from CADS and Gala in the Gardens.
